Around the Hotel : Bars / Pubs

Saint George's Tavern

46 Rue du faubourg Montmartre
75009 Paris

A very friendly Irish pub with two roomy floors, two different ambiances and regular live rock music.

By day, the big bay windows let the sunshine stream in. The atmosphere is cosy and intimate around the large wooden bar. A highlight of the menu is the roast camembert with honey and walnuts, great for lunch by yourself or sharing with friends. Service here comes with a smile, another good reason why the regulars keep coming back.

By night, the atmosphere goes electric, and there's plenty of Irish craic. Fans of blondes, brunes and rousses - beers, that is - soon get hooked on the rock'n'roll vibe. And it's also worth sampling the Docteur Pepper cocktail, a house blend of beer, coca cola and amaretto.

Le Café Zéphyr

12, Boulevard Montmartre
75009 Paris

On the Grands Boulevards, a tad lost among the anonymous high street names, the Zéphyr is a big, old-fashioned café-brasserie in plum and black, and it's a match for any of the "trendy" spots on the Rue Oberkampf. The café Zephyr serves up good old-fashioned Auvergne cuisine (the owners' grandparents came from the region). Weekend brunch is a calorific affair, as is the Auvergne-style breakfast served on weekdays: start the day with saucisse sèche. Complete with its own billiard table.

Sunday : from 8.00am to 9.30pm
Price : Long drink 7.50 € (Whisky) - Café 2.40 € Menu 24 € Brunch 18 € - Breakfast 13 € ("La Musette du bougnat de Tizi Ouzou")

Le Barramundi

3 Rue Taitbout
75009 Paris

Africa meets Asia in this restaurant-cum-bar-cum-club, decorated to feel both luxurious and trendily modern. The Barramundi is an ambitious blend of cultures, just a stroll away from the Opéra Garnier.

Thomas Wattelier's fusion menu takes Mediterranean flavours and gives them a dash of the exotic. You can also taste your way around the teas of the world or sample cocktails that draw their inspiration from the far-off. The music is suitably elsewhere-ish, too, without limiting itself to anywhere in particular... and it's all the better for that.

A cool night spot, popular with local office execs.
